Giving Users Access to Another Server

When your company needs to work directly on a second Katapult Pro server, you can accept an invitation to that server and send your users there with the same login they already have.

Before you start: Cross-Server Access is an experimental feature. If you do not see the Server Access Sharing section on your Admin page, a company admin needs to turn on Cross-Server Access Menu first (see the first step below). If the toggle is on and the section still does not appear, email support@katapultengineering.com. Only a company admin can enter a sharing code or grant a user access to another server.

What is this?

Katapult Pro runs on more than one server. Each server has its own web address and its own data, and most users log in to one server only: their company's home server.

Cross-Server Access lets your company accept an invitation to a different server. The owner of that server sends you a 10-character Sharing Code. Once you enter it, the two servers are linked, and users can be given permission to access the new server. Those users then open the other server's web address and log in with the same email address and the same password they already use. Their account stays in sync across every server they can reach.

When would I use it?

Reach for this when your people need to work inside another server, not just receive a job from it. Common cases:

If all you need is to hand an individual job back and forth with a company on another server, you do not need Cross-Server Access. Use Sharing Jobs Across Servers instead.

How do I use it?

Turn on the Cross-Server Access Menu experimental feature

A company admin enables the feature on the Project Management page. Open it from the App Tray in the top right of Katapult Pro, or go straight to katapultpro.com/project-management. In the left menu under Admin, select Company Options. Scroll to Experimental Features and toggle on Cross-Server Access Menu so it turns blue.

Get a sharing code from the other server

The owner of the server you are joining creates the code on their end and sends it to you. Most companies will see only Enter Sharing Code in their own Server Access Sharing panel, with no Create Sharing Code button next to it. That is expected. Accepting an invitation and issuing one are two separate permissions, and issuing one belongs to the company that owns the server.

The server owner creates the sharing code from the Admin page in the same location a receiving company enters it.

Enter the sharing code

Open the Admin page from the App Tray, or go to katapultpro.com/admin/. In the company settings column on the left, expand Server Access Sharing and click Enter Sharing Code.

Enter the code and click Continue and Katapult Pro shows you the name of the company and the server you are linking to, so you can confirm you have the right invitation before you accept it. The new link then appears as a card in the Server Access Sharing panel, showing Company, Server, and Created, with a three-dot menu in the corner.

Give each user access to the new server

Linking the servers does not move anyone. You grant access user by user.

  1. On the Admin page, click the user you want to give access to. Their card opens on the right.
  2. Under the permission toggles, click Server Access.
  3. The User Server Access dialog lists every server your company can reach. Your home server is at the top with a house icon next to it, and each server below it is grouped by name, with your company and any working groups listed underneath.
  4. Find the server you want to add, then click the + button on the row for your company on that server.
  5. Use the Read, Write, and Admin checkboxes on that row to set what the user can do there.
  6. Click Done.

Have the user log in on the other server

Send the user the web address of the other server. They log in with the same email address and the same password they already use for Katapult Pro. There is no second account to create and no separate password to remember, and their user information stays synced across every server they can reach.

Remove access when you no longer need it

You have two levels of removal:

You cannot remove a user from their home server. That row stays locked. If someone truly needs to be removed from your company, delete the user from the Admin page instead.
